Don't stay here. We booked a night art the hotel for our first wedding anniversary. We arrived at the resort around 12. We went to the front desk to check in at the hotel. The woman at the front desk was rude and acted like we were a inconvenience. "You can't check in until 3. I can tell you now that your room is NOT ready" We said okay and she replied "You can call at 2 and check on the status of your room." So, we thanked her and checked out the town of Cape Charles which wound up being about 20 minutes away. We came back to the resort at 2 and went in to check on our room. It still wasn't ready, so we waited in the parking lot. We already knew what room number we had, so we watched the housekeeper go in our room and clean it. Once she left the room, we went back to the front desk to get our keys. "Your room is NOT ready" both of the ladies at the front desk said. "Your room is the LAST room to get done!" We thought that was odd since they knew for two hours that we were there and that we watched the housekeeper finish our room, which we told the lady at the front desk. "I can double check I guess" she said. Of course our room was in fact ready and we got the keys. Our room was really nice. Everything was really clean and the bed was very comfortable. We went to check out the next morning and there was a different woman at the front desk. She was gossiping with housekeeping when we walked in and continued to ignore us and carry on a conversation with housekeeping complaining about another guest in front of us. We stood there for 10 minutes before she would check us out. The pool at the hotel was closed the whole time, but nobody told us. There is hardly any information about the resort or the town of cape Charles. We had to google most of the things we did there. Also, the beach at the resort is very small. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because we had a nice room. I recommend just staying in the town of Cape Charles. Unless you like rude staff.

We are spending a week at Sunset Beach Resort (SBR). SBR recently reopened after a renovation. The property is nice and the renovation is thorough with quality bedding and good furniture. There are about 100 hotel rooms and an adjacent RV park. The beach is Bayfront, so child friendly. No waves and a very small sand "apron" of surf make for no surfing and poor boogie boarding. However, it is perfect for kayaks and Stand Up Paddle boards. The distance from the hotel to the pool and beach is about 1/4 mile, but there is a free golf cart shuttle. Golf carts are for rent, too, at about $55 daily. We experienced a lot of small snafus due to new construction, work still in progress, and inexperienced staff. The staff was friendly, but often waiting on you while on the phone with what seemed to be a platoon of bosses. I expect this will calm down as the staff settles into a normal routine and construction punch list items are cleared. BTW, burgers, fries and chicken strips in the restaurant were food service grade and overcooked. We probably won't be back except for a weekend stay.

The RV sites could be better marked with gravel, or concrete. They aren't anything to write home about. There is no shaded spots, but a few we saw that we would try to book if we decided to return. The location is prime, so it's a bit sad that they aren't a 5 star worthy resort. Their sister resort, Masseys Landing is amazing so we were expecting something more like that. The staff here was very helpful and the bath houses were clean.

Came down for a long weekend to do some fishing in the bay. Very friendly staff, pet friendly great atmosphere. we will be back.

Beautiful place to camp and great bay side beach. I can't say they didn't try hard to attract campers this season. Specials and activities all weekend with bands at the bar. We through enjoyed our stay and will be coming back. The only downside is the remote location. There is no ocean access unless you cross the bridge tunnel.
